New Delhi, September 18, 2025 By Mr Kartikey Diwakar: The Delhi School of Journalism, University of Delhi, organized a special lecture as part of its weekly lecture series, focusing on the pivotal topic of "Storytelling in Journalism." The session featured Mr. Shalabh Upadhyay, Founder and CEO of NEWJ, India's leading digital media tech startup with nearly 250 employees.
During the interactive session, Mr. Upadhyay shared his insights on various aspects of storytelling, the evolving landscape of journalism, and the challenges faced by the industry in the digital era. He emphasized the importance of storytelling in Indian regional languages and highlighted the vast opportunities available for non-political journalists in today's media landscape.
Mr. Upadhyay, an alumnus of Columbia School of Journalism, New York, and the University of Toronto, drew from his experiences as a journalism student and professional. He noted that while the core concept of journalism has evolved with the rise of bloggers, storytelling remains a crucial element of civilization and society. "Stories are the lifeblood of our culture, and storytellers are fearless individuals who shape narratives," he added.
The lecture was well-received by the students, who engaged in a lively Q&A session, seeking insights on opportunities and challenges in the field of storytelling and blogging. Dr. Sanjay Verma, OSD, Delhi School of Journalism, welcomed the gathering and encouraged students to benefit from such academic events. Dr. Yatin Batra, Assistant Professor at DSJ, introduced the keynote speaker and proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ravinder Kumar honored Mr. Upadhyay with a book and shawl.
