The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs today launched the Angikaar 2025 campaign, a nationwide initiative to strengthen the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY–U 2.0). The programme seeks to accelerate housing project delivery and deepen public engagement across more than 5,000 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the country.
The campaign will run until October 31, 2025, focusing on raising awareness, mobilizing communities, and ensuring the timely handover of houses sanctioned under PMAY–U 2.0. Officials stated that Angikaar 2025 emphasizes not only expediting construction but also promoting housing-related social initiatives such as sustainable living, energy efficiency, and inclusive urban development.
Addressing the launch event, the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister highlighted that the initiative marks “a crucial step in bridging the urban housing gap” and underlined the government’s commitment to providing dignified living conditions to all urban residents under the vision of ‘Housing for All’.
As part of the campaign, ULBs will organize extensive outreach activities, including workshops, public awareness drives, and beneficiary interaction programmes. Special attention is being given to integrating digital monitoring tools to track progress and ensure transparency in project completion.
Officials clarified that Angikaar 2025 will also focus on convergence with other flagship schemes, ensuring that housing beneficiaries gain access to essential services such as water supply, sanitation, and electricity.
With an aim to conclude visible results by the campaign’s deadline, the Ministry has directed all participating states and ULBs to set weekly targets and adopt a “mission mode” approach to resolve construction bottlenecks.
The Angikaar 2025 campaign is expected to serve as a booster to PMAY–Urban 2.0, which has already sanctioned millions of houses and is considered central to India’s affordable housing roadmap.
