Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions of Punjab, where relentless rainfall has caused widespread damage to homes, crops and infrastructure. The Prime Minister assessed the situation from the air to get a clear picture of the devastation, before being briefed by officials on relief and rescue measures already underway.
Authorities in Punjab, with support from central agencies, are working round the clock to assist those impacted by the floods. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police and volunteers, have been deployed to evacuate people from low-lying areas while essential supplies such as food, drinking water and medicines are being distributed.
Speaking after the survey, Prime Minister Modi expressed his solidarity with the people of Punjab in this challenging time. He assured that the Union Government stands firmly with the state and will extend all possible assistance to ensure speedy recovery and rehabilitation. "Our thoughts are with those affected by the floods," he said, while underlining the importance of coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state government.
The floods, triggered by incessant monsoon rains, have impacted thousands across several districts of Punjab. Initial reports suggest large-scale crop loss, disruption to transportation networks and extensive damage to property. Authorities are focusing on immediate relief while also preparing strategies for long-term rehabilitation.
